A trail running festival with spectacular new routes

Last updated on 31.10.2024

The Stubai Ultratrail 2025 – powered by SCOTT has the new motto “EPIC TRAILS, EPIC VALLEY” and offers extraordinary trail running experiences on new routes in the Stubai Valley – the most beautiful valley in the Alps. The routes range from the 16-kilometre-long Sunnenseit’n Trail route to the exclusive and challenging 78-kilometre run along the Stubai High Trail (Stubaier Höhenweg). All routes start and end on the weekend of 27 and 28 June 2025 in the middle of the village of Neustift in the Stubai Valley. This allows fans and spectators to be close to the action and celebrate a running festival with the trail runners. Registration for the Stubai Ultratrail opens on 31 October 2024.

With new, challenging routes and the integration of the well-known Stubai High Trail (Stubaier Höhenweg), the 2025 event will be a very special highlight for the international trail running community. “The Stubai High Trail is one of the most popular long-distance hiking trails in the Alps with an enormous attraction. The route, which is normally completed in six to eight days, has to be completed in one day. It’s impressive and can only be done by the most experienced trail runners,” says Adrian Siller, chairman of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association, describing the new attraction of the Stubai Ultratrail.

The new routes of the Stubai Ultratrail 2025

The 78-kilometre run with 5,930 metres of altitude difference begins in Neustift in the Stubai Valley and leads along the entire Stubai High Trail before returning to Neustift. This technically demanding, high alpine trail runs at an altitude of 2,100 to 2,900 metres and leads participants through a unique combination of well-kept cultural landscapes and wild high mountain regions, past the eight mountain huts of the Stubai High Trail. The number of participants is limited to one hundred people, and special participation requirements apply.

The Stubai Ultra route with 59 kilometres and 4,280 metres of altitude difference offers everything a trail runner’s heart desires in both sporting and scenic terms. On parts of the 2023 World Championships course, it crosses forests, meadows and leads into the famous Kalkkögel, also known as the “Dolomites of North Tyrol”. Before the finish in Neustift, it also circles the imposing Elfer massif.

The Stubai Classic Route is a little shorter, but no less spectacular. On 31 kilometres and 2,325 metres of altitude, it goes over the original World Championship course of 2023, the “Sunnenseit’n trail” and the suspension bridge back to the finish in Neustift.

Also new to the 2025 programme is the Stubai Express with 24 kilometres and 1,305 metres of altitude: It connects the “Sunnenseit’n trail” with the wildly romantic Pinnis Valley and offers a technically attractive route with fantastic views.

Tried and tested, the Stubai Sunnenseit’n Trail offers a perfect mix of easy trails and highlights over a more compact distance of 16 kilometres and 750 metres in altitude, such as the spectacular suspension bridge high up in the forests above Neustift.

A festival for trail running

The event, which will bring a real festival atmosphere in 2025, starts and ends in Neustift in the Stubai Valley. This not only provides a perfect backdrop, but also makes the Stubai Ultratrail a central meeting place for runners, spectators and fans of trail running.

“The Stubai Ultratrail 2025 is more than just a run. It is a real trail running festival, where the participants not only enjoy the sporting challenge, but also experience the unique ambience and the warm atmosphere in the Stubai Valley,” explains Roland Volderauer, Managing Director of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association.
