Registration for Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is closed
Last updated on 17.02.2026
The registration period for the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, taking place on 30 August 2026, has now ended. In January, passionate cyclists had the opportunity to register for the 45th edition of this classic alpine cycling marathon.

On 30 August, the unrivaled Ötztaler Cycle Marathon will take place for the 45th time – starting and finishing in Sölden. The traditional course of this legendary cycling marathon covers 227 kilometers and 5,500 altitude meters while crossing four Alpine passes: Kühtai, Brenner and Jaufen Pass before finishing over Timmelsjoch. “Thousands of cyclists from myriad countries have again registered. The registration period in January has ended, as has the official drawing. Now all cycling enthusiasts who secured one of the coveted starting places can prepare for the ultimate Ötztaler Cycle Marathon,” says Dominic Kuen, Head of the OC Team.
The dream team in front of and behind the scenes
The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon focuses on a collaborative and joint effort. Over 1,300 volunteers work with passion, professionalism and great enthusiasm year after year to ensure that the event runs smoothly. “They are often in the background, but indispensable for the immense success of our event,” Heike Klotz states. The Sölden native and Head of the OC Committee also emphasizes that the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is about much more than just the best and the fastest: “We want to increasingly highlight emotional stories and unseen insights while bringing the everyday heroes of the cycle marathon into the spotlight – participants and volunteers alike.”
Women play a key role in the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon
“Women are capable of top performances in all sports and performance categories, but sometimes they still stand in awe of our marathon. That’s exactly why it is so important to us to increase their visibility at the cycle marathon – even though they are still in the minority,” explains Heike Klotz. In recent years, the proportion of women at the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon has steadily increased. “This has brought us to a new record high and we are very proud of it. We are working hard to further promote this development. It includes, among other measures, transferring starting places from women only to other women so that reserved starting places are actually filled by women. It is also quite important to break down mental barriers: women, have the courage to participate,” adds Heike.
Sustainability is a top priority
The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is a partner of “Green Events Austria” and aims to implement the event in a responsible and sustainable way – ecologically, regionally and with a focus on the future. “This year, we again have electric and hybrid vehicles on the marathon course to ensure the safety of all participants. Integrating public transportation is as well very important to us: public buses now run through the entire Ötztal valley in 30-minute intervals,” says OC Head Dominic Kuen. Raising awareness and involving regional partners and producers are key priorities. “We want to further close the ecological loop from mobility to organizational aspects such as starter packages, supplies at the refreshments stations as well as food and drink options in general. Other main priorities include the involvement of regional partners and, of course, a cleverly designed system of reusable cup,” Kuen adds.
