Stuiben Trail Run – An international running festival at Tirol’s largest waterfall

Last updated on 09.04.2026

From 14 to 17 May 2026, this ultimate sports event will once again gather national and international athletes in Umhausen. The registration numbers demonstrate just how established the Stuiben Trail Run has become within the running community. Eighty percent of the starting places for the long-distance races are already booked. Fans and athletes can once again look forward to a top-class side program, including a Trail Running Night with expert talks, community runs, workshops and yoga sessions amidst nature.

Over the years, the Stuiben Trail Run has developed into an event of international renown. A glance at the registration list by the end of March underscores this trend: athletes from all over Europe and beyond are drawn to Umhausen to conquer the 728 natural and steel steps along the roaring waters of the Stuiben Falls.

Rushing for starting places
Demand is very high again this year. “We are seeing that the trail running community is planning quite early. Anyone who wants to be there in 2026 needs to be quick,” says Martin Scheiber, chairman of the “Ötztal Trail Running” association. While the Stuiben Sprint (limited to 100 participants) currently has 60 registrations, you will need to be quick to secure your starting place for the longer distances:

  • 42K (limited to 200 participants): 80 % booked
  • 24K (limited to 375 participants): 80 % booked
  • 12K (limited to 250 participants): 70 % booked

Live experience for fans on site and online
All those who cannot participate in person or want to cheer on their favorites from afar can follow the Stuiben Trail Run 2026 online worldwide. Between 6:30 and 15:00, a professional livestream will broadcast the race on the Ötztal YouTube channel and at oetztal.com/stuiben-trailrun. Bernd Stadlober and trail running expert Lukas Kocher, two experts in the scene, will guide viewers through the program. Thanks to additional cameras along the running course and drone footage, both the emotions and athletic achievements are delivered directly to the living rooms of fans around the globe.

More than just a race
The Stuiben Trail Run has grown into a multi-day festival. On Thursday, performance partner Base Five invites you join to the “Trail Running Night” featuring exciting expert presentations and talks. This year, Friday is dedicated to the next generation with the premiere of the Children’s Sports Day. From 10:00 to 16:00, young talents will showcase their skills at several activity stations and games before giving their best at the WIDI Trail Run.

New to the program and a highlight for all finishers:

  • Recovery area & workshops: Base Five will be on site from Thursday to Saturday to support athletes with community runs and during their recovery.
  • The perfect end to the running festival: Sunday will be a relaxing day. Participants and fans can reflect on the weekend’s experiences in idyllic alpine surroundings at the “Sore Muscle Breakfast & Yoga” at the Wiesle snack station.

Preview: another trail running highlight
The Stuiben Trail Run just kicks off a top-notch trail running summer in Ötztal. If you already have developed a taste for high alpine challenges and glacier panoramas after the event in Umhausen, you should mark your calendar for July: the Glacier Trail Run in Gurgl invites runners to push their limits at an altitude of over 3,000 meters above sea level.
