Austrian Alpine Open 2026

At the end of May 2026, following its successful debut in Salzburg in 2025, the DP World Tour will bring the Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel – Tirol to Tirol for the first time, hosted at the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith golf course. From 28 to 31 May 2026, world-class golf will take centre stage against an alpine backdrop. Among those competing is Austria’s most successful golfer of all time, Sepp Straka – two-time Ryder Cup winner and four-time PGA Tour champion – making a long-awaited appearance in front of family, friends and a home crowd. www.kitzbuehel.com/en/events/dp-world-tour/

Diverse golfing experience with comfort and flexibility

Tirol is not only a venue for top-level sport, but also a highly versatile golf destination. More than 20 golf clubs – including the 17 “Golf Tirol” partner clubs – offer a wide range of course styles, from flat valley layouts to demanding fairways set in alpine terrain. You can tee off at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, with views of the Wilder Kaiser, on sunny plateaus or surrounded by forests, meadows and striking peaks. It is precisely this blend of scenic beauty and sporting variety that defines golf in Tirol.

Golfers keen to sample the delights of several courses during a golf holiday will find the Golf Tirol Card a simple and flexible solution. Valid at 17 partner courses across the region, it allows you to choose freely between course types – from 9-hole layouts to full championship courses. The card can be shared by two people and remains valid until the end of the following season if not all rounds are used. Prices for the 2026 season are €297 for 3 green fees, €392 for 4 green fees and €485 for 5 green fees.

The range of services is complemented by 43 quality-approved golf hotels, many of them family-run and tailored specifically to the needs of golf guests. Expect warm, personal hospitality,
assistance with tee time reservations, secure storage for equipment and often a shuttle service to the course. All hotels combine golf packages with the Golf Tirol Card and are located no more than 25 kilometres from the nearest club – ensuring relaxed golfing in the
heart of the Alps.

What makes golf in Tirol so special

Golf in Tirol is not only about beautifully located courses – it also offers some unique features that even seasoned golfers may find surprising. The Golfclub Reit im Winkl-Kössen, for example,
is a cross-border course, with six holes in Austria and twelve in Germany. Golfing here quite literally means teeing off in one country and continuing in another.

Tirol also stands out in terms of quality: six of its courses are currently among the Leading Golf Courses of Austria, meaning that every second 18-hole course in Tirol belongs to this prestigious allinace. This recognition is based on a comprehensive quality assessment process, including anonymous testing of course maintenance, design and facilities – highlighting the exceptional concentration of top-level courses in the region.

The oldest golf course in Tirol is the Golf- & Landclub Achensee, whose history dates back to the 1930s. Its origins read almost like a story from another era: in 1930, Dr Leopold Pasquali observed an English guest – the Archbishop of Canterbury – playing golf on a meadow used for grazing cattle. This inspired the idea of developing golf tourism at Lake Achensee. The club was founded in 1934, with Pasquali as its first president. In its early years, however, not everything ran smoothly: several fairways still crossed active pastures, leading to occasional disputes with local farmers. That the course is now considered one of the region’s most traditional and high-quality courses makes its development all the more remarkable.

A very different chapter in Tirol’s golfing story is written by Golfclub Seefeld-Wildmoos and Golfclub Seefeld Reith. At around 1,300 metres above sea level, they are Tirol’s highest golf courses. The high plateau alone makes for a special round – and the altitude adds a subtle twist to the game: in thinner air, the ball often travels a little further than expected. Here, you don’t just see the mountains – you feel them in your swing.

Newer additions include the Golfclub Zillertal-Uderns and the Golfclub Kitzbüheler Alpen Westendorf, both opened in 2014. Today, both are part of the Leading Golf Courses of Austria and represent a modern approach, with challenging course design and high-quality infrastructure.

The length of the golfing season in Tirol also varies noticeably by location. Courses such as the Mieminger Plateau Golf Club and Golfclub Zillertal-Uderns enjoy particularly long seasons.
The Mieminger Plateau benefits from its sheltered, sunny setting, while Uderns stands out for its relatively low altitude of 550 metres and favourable valley climate. As a result, the golf season in Tirol can begin early in some areas – and last well into autumn.

This blend of tradition, topography, quality and distinctive course stories is what defines golf in Tirol. From flat fairways and alpine courses to historic clubs and modern facilities, Tirol offers a golfing experience that holds a special place within Austria.
