Mayrhofen, 2023: open your calendar, note the date and be READY: Horbergbahn cable car commence operations on 02.12.2023, and the Penkenbahn on 08.12.2023, before the Ahornbahn from 16.12.2023 and Möslbahn from 23.12.2023 start shuttling up to the deep snow-covered Mountopolis in the Tyrolean Zillertal. We have more than enough space to fulfil every winter fantasy: 142 kilometres of pistes and 60 modern lifts in the skiing areas of Ahorn, Penken, Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm, where beginners, pros and winter enthusiasts will find perfectly groomed slopes in varying degrees of difficulty, as well as numerous alterna-tives to classic skiing or snowboarding. Do you ski as far and fast as possible, or are you more of a pleasure skier? It doesn’t really matter, as the Zillertal delicacies taste equally delicious whatever your style and whenever you stop for a bite to eat. Do you love panoramic views, or are you a winter hiker? Family orientated, or lone traveller? Not important, because the mountain panorama exerts the same charm over all and sundry. Welcome, in whatever constel-lation you choose to arrive.

COOL: THRILLING WINTER FUN ON MOUNT PENKEN
When Mount Penken calls with its sporting challenges and varied fun on the slopes, you must go! Penken ski area is easily accessible with the Penkenbahn from Mayrhofen, the Horbergbahn from Schwendau and the Möslbahn at Hochschwendberg. Once at the top, the more daring can sample the delights of speed skiing down the legendary Harakiri – Austria’s steepest slope experience – with an eye-watering gradient of 78%. Those who doubt whether they are up to the challenge can sample the delights of the DevilsRun. The Black-Attack’s racy name says it all and a camera even measures and records your personal best time along the SkiMovie Run.

There is good reason why PenkenPark is considered one of the best snowparks in Europe. Its five areas are not only frequented by the who’s who of the international freeskiing and snowboarding scene, but beginners can also practice tricks and stunts on the various kickers against the awesome backdrop of Mountopolis. One particular highlight is definitely the BagJump in the PenkenPark, where freestylers have the possibility to try out new tricks, with the added benefit of a soft landing.

Speed-hungry skiers can follow in the footsteps of ski stars from all over the world when they emulate
the pros on the two permanent giant slalom courses at RacingParadise Unterberg. A new feature in the winter of 2022/23 is the racecourse Sun-Jet with timing facility – yet another MUST for every adrenaline junkie. And those fancying just a spot of fun can let off steam on the FunRides. The special “Parcours” for skiers of every age features specially developed elements from boarder and ski-cross for unlimited ski fun. You prefer things a little less racy? No problem, because families will find Albert’s Penken Tour on Mount Penken, an easy downhill run for kids with fun obstacles. The WinterHikingPath Penken from the top station of the Kombibahn to Penkenjoch and the WinterHikingPath BergWaldWeg from the mountain station of the Penkenbahn to the mid station of the Finkenberger Almbahnen offers a breathtaking view of the opposing Ahorn and showcases Penken’s very gentle side in impressive fashion.

EASY: RELAXING IN THE SNOW AND PLEASURE-CARVING ON MOUNT AHORN. OR PERHAPS YOU PREFER A SPORTY DOWNHILL RUN TO THE VALLEY?
You will find everything you need for a successful day filled with all that and more in the Ahorn ski area. Where Austria’s largest cable car, the Ahornbahn whisks snow-lovers straight up to the deeply snow-
covered and sunny Ahorn plateau with its easy, wide blue and red slopes as well as child-friendly lifts. Per-fect for all beginners, those returning to the sport and those who prefer to take things a little more leisurely. Exciting tranquillity for elegant carving awaits at Mount Ahorn, as well as winter delights with fabulous views, where you can replenish flagging energy levels on the sun terraces beneath snow-covered peaks. You can also chill out at the WhiteLounge SnowBar, where comfortable deck chairs, delicious drinks and lounge music invite you to relax and daydream.

But do beware: Mountopolis is also known for its challenging ValleyRun Ahorn! Encompassing a length of 5.5 km and over 1,300 meters in elevation difference, this black slope takes you all the way back down to the valley. You’re planning to work on your fitness levels? With pleasure! The Ahornbahn and the ValleyRun Ahorn open before all other lifts and slopes at 7.30 a.m., so early birds can indulge in morning sports on Mount Ahorn.

Non-skiers are well catered for too, as Mount Ahorn offers a wide range of leisure activities and ample space for exciting winter dreams: WinterHikingPath Filzenkogel promises a unique mountain experience with breathtaking views and an entry in the summit book at 2,227 metres above sea level. WinterHikingPath Ahorn also impresses with its sensational views of the Zillertal Alps and the Stilluptal valley and leads past the Zillertal ViewingPlatform in the direction of the FalknerOase, where the Birds of Prey belonging to Ea-gle’s Stage Ahorn have their winter residence. Seven stations around Filzen Reservoir reveal a plethora of interesting information about the history of falconry. By the way, the FalknerOase can not only be “hiked” by pedestrians, it can also be reached by skiers. Those out and about on Mount Ahorn with winter hiking boots or in need of a fun break from skiing, will find the ideal diversion in Mountopolis with PistenBock to-bogganing fun on a specially designed course.

Even more fun is guaranteed at the AlbertAdler PlayWorld by Ravensburger next to the mountain station of the Ahornbahn. An exciting and varied indoor game world was created in a collaborative venture with Ravensburger on an area covering around 140 m2. Equipped with a climbing wall, playhouse, listening stations, giant puzzles and many more. The adjoining Café-Bistro Frei-Raum awaits you with sweet delicacies. So, are you ready for Mountopolis?

Mountain sports enthusiasts should not miss the RISE&FALL sporting event on 14.01.2024, where athletes compete in four disciplines (ski mountaineering, mountain biking, paragliding and skiing) true to the motto “Four people, one team, no mercy.” You can also look forward to the Penken Battle on 10.02.2024, the go-Shred Penken Bingo on 24.02.2024 as well as the Välley Rälley from 09. to 10.03.2024. But these are just a few of the events of an exciting winter season that will continue with numerous mountain highlights.

Mayrhofner Bergbahnen comprises of the Ahornbahn, Penkenbahn, Horbergbahn and Möslbahn. The Ahorn-bahn is Austria’s largest cable car and transports visitors to 2.000 metres above sea level in less than 7 minutes. Equipped with gigantic panoramic glass fronts, it offers unique views of Mayrhofen and the sur-rounding mountains.
