1,200 People from 26 Nations Explored the Kufsteinerland on Foot
Kufsteinerland/Tyrol – With 1,200 participants from 26 nations, seven different routes, and a successful debut for the younger generation, the 56th Ebbs Koasamarsch once again demonstrated the unifying power of shared experiences in nature. While top athletic performances were achieved on the trail running routes, the traditional event remained, above all, a cross-generational experience in the heart of the Kaiser Mountains.
For more than five decades, the Koasamarsch has brought together people of diverse backgrounds, age groups, and athletic abilities. In 2026, too, the focus was not solely on athletic performance, but on the opportunity to experience the Kaiser Mountains in different ways—running, hiking, or watching along the course and in the start/finish area.
Nature Experience Through Movement and Connection
With three trail running distances, four hiking routes, and the new KOASA Kids Sprint, the event combined athletic challenge with a shared experience of nature. Its unique focus remains noteworthy: despite the growing popularity of trail running, more hikers continue to participate than runners. This makes the Koasamarsch one of Austria’s most significant hiking events.
The Kaiser Mountains serve as far more than just a backdrop. The routes run largely through the nature reserve and offer diverse access to this alpine landscape. To protect this sensitive natural area and ensure the uniqueness of the mountain experience, the number of participants is deliberately limited to 1,200.
An Event for All Generations
The premiere of the KOASA Kids Sprint served as a visible symbol of the Koasamarsch’s intergenerational significance. Around 50 children stood at the starting line for the first time. The focus was on movement, joy, and the shared experience.
At the same time, the event’s oldest participant, born in 1935, impressively demonstrated that the Koasamarsch connects people across generations. Hardly any other event brings together children, families, ambitious athletes, and leisure hikers in this way.
Georg Hörhager, Chairman of the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association: “The Koasamarsch connects people in a wide variety of ways. It brings guests and locals in the Kufsteinerland together, combines physical activity with experiencing nature, and allows people to experience the special quality of the Kaiser Mountains.”
Top-Level Athletic Performances
The event also made its mark in the realm of sports: On the premier distance of the KOASA-55 Panorama Trail—spanning 55 kilometers and 3,900 meters of elevation gain—Toni Seewald set a new course record. In the women’s category, favorite Carina Helmreich prevailed as expected.
These achievements underscore the sporting quality of the event, which now draws participants from many different countries—even from Australia and India—to the Kufsteinerland region.
And yet, the combination of nature, community, and an active lifestyle makes the Koasamarsch an event that goes far beyond a traditional sports competition. The countless volunteers also contribute to this with their dedication and passion.
