Official opening of the Stubai Cycle Route 19

Last updated on 08.10.2025

On 7 October 2025, the time had come: After seven years of planning and construction, the Stubai Cycle Route 19 was officially opened with the completion of the construction section to the Stefansbrücke in front of Innsbruck, thus redefining the mobility and leisure culture of the Stubai Valley. The 40-kilometre-long overall cycle network, including feeder roads, stretches from the Doadler Alm in the rear Stubai Valley to the Stefansbrücke bridge on the Brenner road. The cycle route connects all five municipalities – Neustift, Fulpmes, Telfes, Mieders and Schönberg – as well as the mountain railways of the valley and allows a stop at a variety of attractions. The costs of the joint project of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association, the Stubai Valley Planning Association and the Province of Tyrol amount to 23 million euros.

“With the new, continuous cycle route from Innsbruck to the Stubai Valley, we are sending a powerful signal for future-oriented mobility in Tyrol. This project exemplifies our claim to create modern infrastructure that meets the needs of the local people as well as the demands for sustainability and quality of life,” emphasizes Philip Wohlgemuth, 1st Deputy Governor and State Councillor of Tyrol.

Innovation and commitment on cycle route 19

On the entire route, the average gradient is five percent and offers enough space for everyone. “The Stubai Cycle Route is a leisure activity, but it also makes it easier for our residents to get to work, school or local amenities – safely, quickly and environmentally friendly. The new cycle route was realised with a lot of commitment and foresight. The close cooperation between the state of Tyrol, the Stubai Tourism Association, the municipalities and many committed local people shows what we can achieve together for our region,” says Daniel Stern, Chairman of the Stubai Valley Planning Association.

Adrian Siller, Chairman of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association, adds: “The Stubai Cycle Route 19 is the largest project to date that the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association – together with the planning association, the state of Tyrol and the federal government – has so far been in charge. 9 million euros of own funds from the region – 7 million of which from the tourism association and 2 million from the municipalities – underline the strong commitment on site. From the very beginning, the focus was on the benefits for guests and locals: the route allows guests to easily reach varied attractions, enjoy regional delicacies at restaurants and experience our hospitality. For locals, the cycle route offers an attractive leisure option right on their doorstep – whether for a short tour after work, for family outings at the weekend or a sporting challenge with friends. “

Along the route, modern infrastructure measures such as repair stations, sports shops, rest areas and numerous refreshment stops ensure optimal conditions. “It is important that the cycle route takes into account the needs of all users. With the expansion of the cycling infrastructure, we are creating attractive local recreation areas right on our doorstep and strengthening the quality of life in our villages in the long term,” Stern adds.

The opening was framed by a customary reception in the presence of the flag delegation of the Stubai rifle battalion and the Schönberg music band. Günter Guglberger, Head of the Provincial Roads and Cycle Paths Department of the Province of Tyrol, is pleased: “The seven-year construction work brought many technical challenges, but thanks to numerous geotechnical and structural measures, an attractive and safe cycle route was created for everyone. The newly opened Telfes-Unterberg section will also be an important milestone for the expansion of the cycle path network in Tyrol and the Euregio cycle path strategy.”
