The Stubai summer event: sporty, social, legendary!

Last updated on 24.04.2018

In the summer of 2018 in the Stubai, almost everything revolves around sport, but “only” almost…

Known by mountaineers for years and always popular with families, valuing tradition without ignoring modernism, the Stubai Valley has established itself as a legitimate sporting event destination in recent years. Whether running up the mountain like in the 2nd STUBAI ULTRATRAIL, with one foot on the ball like the RUSSIAN NATIONAL TEAM or with the racing bike at the stage stop of the 70th AUSTRIA TOUR, the Stubai Valley promises not to disappoint with action-loaded events full of enjoyment, tradition and culture.

“Long live sport…”
The Stubai Valley is an absolute hotspot for football training camps of top, internationally renowned teams. Before the European Football Championship 2016, the host nation France also trained in the Stubai and later became European vice-champion. From 20 May to 2 June 2018, the Russian national football team will use the top conditions in the Stubai to get in the mood for the World Cup on its home turf.

Last summer, the STUBAI ULTRATRAIL Run celebrated its brilliant premiere as a sporting event highlight. The record of 8:28 hours is the time to beat when it continues on 30 June 2018. In this incomparable adventure, long-distance runners cover a distance of 60 kilometres, 5,075 metres in ascent and 2,512 metres in descent. For the STUBAI BASICTRAIL, the distance is 28.7 kilometres and for the STUBAI GLETSCHERTRAIL, a new variant from 2018, there are a total of 8 kilometres. The finish in the Kingdom of Snow on the Stubai Glacier is spectacular for runners of all performance levels.

Stefan Denifl, a professional cyclist from Fulpmes, won the AUSTRIA TOUR 2017. In 2018, Stubai is involved again as a stop for the 70th AUSTRIA TOUR. On 8 July 2018, the athletes will be celebrated at the finish of the Feldkirch stage directly in front of the StuBay leisure centre in Telfes.

A classic in mountain running is the traditional Schlickeralm Trail. The 30th International Schlickeralm Trail, at the same time Austrian Mountain Trail State Championship, is aimed at all recreational, amateur and professional runners on 29 July 2018.

“A little man stands in the forest…”
…which will be held on 19 August 2018, in the course of the Children’s Forest Festival at the panorama lake in the Schlick 2000 Hiking Centre. The forest can be discovered in a playful way, and personalised wooden discs can be made for the disc path.

The family-friendly nature is also enjoyed by both children and grown-up vacationers in the ice grotto on the Stubai Glacier. Deep in the eternal ice, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of glacier phenomena. On 15 July 2018, those interested will immerse themselves in the glacier world and experience exciting guided tours and ice carvers at work at the “Fascination Ice” event.

The BIG Family Week, from 23 to 27 July 2018, is a must for families. The four mountain railways of the valley are captivating with an enchantingly colourful palette. This year’s highlight is the BIG Family Summer Party on 3 August 2018 at Kampler Lake. Great playgrounds, face-painting for children are just as much a part of this as romping about on a bouncy castle and snacking on cotton candy.

The family event “Spielleit & Pumpersudel” on 24 August 2018 will focus on legends and tales, old children’s games, singing with children as well as theatre and knight performances. The Serlesbahnen in Mieders, where according to myth the petrified King Serles looks down, is the perfect location for this extraordinary event.

“Music is in the air…”
The Stubai music bands will start the open-air concerts in April with a renewed energy. The spring concerts in all five villages are the impressive forerunners of the regular concerts in the music pavilions throughout the summer. The District Music Festival at the music pavilion in Fulpmes from 29 June to 1 July 2018 should be a big event for music and costume enthusiasts.

On 17 June 2018, young musicians invite you to the event with Schneid and Freid at the Koppeneck panorama restaurant in Mieders. Equipped with hiking boots and musical instruments, the Stubai G’spiel and G’sang is held on 1 July, 5 August and 2 September 2018 with folk music from huut to hut around the Serles. On 12 August 2018, brass bands (Weisenbläser) and alpine singers (Almsänger) will meet in the idyllic Pinnistal valley for the traditional Stubaier Almklang.

The exclusive concert of the Amigos on 14 September in Fulpmes offers a truly unique conclusion to the Stubai Autumn Highlights from 9 to 16 September 2018.

“Let us enjoy life…”
The Stubai Wellness Programme takes place from June to October. On the Pleasure Hiking Night on 20 July 2018, the Ruetz cataract will be staged artistically and tastefully on the WildeWasserWeg, and on 10 August 2018, the programme will lead the visitors along the wheelchair-friendly hiking trail to the Grawa waterfall. An experience of nature of the highest quality.

The end of the late summer events in the Stubai Valley is particularly sweet. On 6 October 2018, the Stubai Kaiserschmarren world record chefs will once again light up their huge pans when the TVB Stubai Tirol and numerous participating gourmet restaurants host the 4th Stubai Kaiserschmarren Festival at Lake Kampler See.

However, the event highlights listed are not intended to eclipse the regular small events held as part of the weekly programme.
