Enjoy music on the mountain: in Innsbruck’s alpine concert arena – from classical to electro
Last updated on 15.05.2019
Innsbruck is a wonderful place where you can feel at home not only in the city, but also in the mountains. And so it seems perfectly natural that outstanding musical events also take place in the beautiful and breathtaking mountain world. The enjoyment of music moves from the city’s concert halls to be redefined at the heart of the impressive mountains around Innsbruck. From a concert by the Vienna Boys’ Choir to an electronic music festival, there’s something to appeal to every taste!
Vienna Boys’ Choir on the Nordkette mountains in the Karwendel Nature Park
A date which has been eagerly anticipated is 31 May 2019, because that’s when the Vienna Boys’ Choir will be giving a concert on the Seegrube from 6 pm. The Vienna Boys‘ Choir is delighted to be singing on the Seegrube which represents, on the one hand, modern Innsbruck and, on the other hand, the unspoilt landscape of the Karwendel Nature Park. “You don‘t often have the opportunity to sing at 1,900 metres above sea level. That’s just like high-altitude training, but with outstanding views”, says Bastian, a choir member aged 14, who’s really looking forward to the concert. The “globetrotting” boys have put together their programme from all over the world, performing songs from Bulgaria, Venezuela and Lesotho, the latter also accompanied by a dance. But don’t worry, they’ll also be singing Austrian folk songs too. The mountain air is definitely good for the voice and the atmosphere. Admission to the 30-minute concert is free, only the cable car ticket needs to be paid for (Leisure Ticket is valid). In the case of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Court Church.
Chamber orchestra with a difference: Classics on the Mountain 1,965m
The Patscherkofel, Innsbruck’s home mountain, will also be focusing on classical music from 6 pm on 29 June 2019. InnStrumenti, the Tyrolean chamber orchestra, will be delighting listeners with its third concert high above the city on one of the longest summer days of the year. Not far from the Patscherkofel mountain station, visitors can savour the special pleasures of a true classical highlight combined with stunning views of the city and the Nordkette mountains. And you don’t have to manage a laborious climb to get to the concert, as the Patscherkofelbahn cable car takes you up to the summit in no time at all. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Canisianum.

The finest electro at the Nordkette Wetterleuchten
A festival of outstanding quality will be held this summer on Innsbruck’s Nordkette mountains. The Nordkette Wetterleuchten will take place on the Seegrube from 13 to 14 July. International and national acts from the electronic music scene will fill the mountains with the sound of music at 1,900 metres above sea level. Only 1,100 tickets will be available, and they will include a return trip on the Nordkettenbahnen funicular and cable car. The festival is a successful mix of music, nature and campfire romance. Camping is also allowed!
Jazz brunch with Tyrolean delicacies
On summer Sundays in July and August, the Seegrube restaurant is an irresistible place to enjoy a lovely brunch, with breathtaking views over Innsbruck and live jazz included. Delicious treats are served, such as Tyrolean bacon and cheese creations, fine spreads, fresh fruit, a selection of egg dishes, pastries and imaginative variations of Tyrolean Gröstl, an onion and potato fry-up with savoury sausages. And, of course, a glass of Prosecco to propose a toast is an essential part of the occasion!
