High and mighty: the 20th International Golden Roof Challenge

The International Golden Roof Challenge, Innsbruck’s cult event, is celebrating its 20th birthday with the arrival of the world’s pole vaulting and long jumping elite in the heart of the capital of Tyrol. For this anniversary edition, the declared aim of the athletes is to gain enough world ranking points to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games. Spectacular performances are once more guaranteed in Maria-Theresien-Strasse this year – with free admission.

Saddle up: the 8th Crankworx Innsbruck
12–16 June 2024 | Bikepark Innsbruck, Mutters
For the eighth time, the Bikepark Innsbruck will be transformed into a playing field as the international mountain bike elite compete in five disciplines. As a first, the programme includes the women’s slopestyle competition, where top female riders will show off their tricks and jumps over metre-high obstacles. This multi-day event with its great festival atmosphere not only offers plenty of action for mountain bike fans with its competitions – there are also plenty of side events, from the Bike Expo and legendary after-parties to an action-packed programme for kids.

Rock stars: IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck
24–30 June 2024 | Kletterzentrum Innsbruck, Innsbruck
Impressive performances and a phenomenal atmosphere are guaranteed as the world’s climbing elite take to the climbing wall in Innsbruck. The bouldering, lead and paraclimbing World Cup competitions are scheduled to cover a total of seven days, with over 400 climbers from more than 40 countries – including local hero Jakob Schubert – expected to take part. As well as the coveted medals, Innsbruck also offers the last major chance to judge matters in the bouldering and lead disciplines before the Paris Olympic Games.

Hands on: 16th Women’s European Handball Championship 2024
28 November – 3 December 2024 | Olympiahalle, Innsbruck
For the first time ever, 24 teams from all over Europe will be competing at the European Women’s Handball Championship – making this tournament the biggest ever. The 16th edition will this year be staged in four cities in three different countries: the preliminary rounds will be held in Innsbruck (Austria), Basel (Switzerland) and Debrecen (Hungary), with the main round in Vienna (Austria) and Debrecen, before the weekend of the final in Vienna’s Stadthalle. The spirit and passion of handball will be on display in Innsbruck at the end of November and beginning of December, as Europe’s best female handball players battle it out for the prestigious trophy.

The hills are alive: 9th adidas TERREX Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival

The ninth edition of the Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival is being held this year in the spirit of the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships. Kicking off the season for the European trail running scene, the IATF offers the perfect running route for both experts and beginners to this sport that brings all participants closer to nature: the trails – from 7 to 110 kilometres long – lead over fields, in and out of forests and of course through the city itself. Teamwork at the highest level: Xletix Challenge Tirol Innsbruck

With its motto of “One team, one goal!”, the Xletix Challenge Tirol Innsbruck is being hosted in Kühtai. With a spectacular mountain backdrop, alongside unspoilt nature and beautiful lakes, teams will prove their endurance, courage and strength as they venture over, under and through extreme obstacles at an altitude of 2,020 metres above sea level. Europe’s highest obstacle course features up to 35 hurdles and a net climb of 1,300 metres. Three distances – 6, 12 and 18 kilometres – offer the ideal blend of fun, mud and teamwork.

Sports while sightseeing: purora Innsbruckathlon – Beat the City
28–29 June 2024 | Landestheatervorplatz, Innsbruck
Billed as the world’s toughest sightseeing tour, this year’s Innsbruckathlon will once again challenge participants to tackle some 20 obstacles over a distance of 10+ kilometres, all without neglecting the fun factor. The individual stages demand great physical strength, coordination skills and ambition, while the staggered start permits athletes of all fitness levels to take part, from ambitious club runners to enthusiastic amateurs. There is even a challenge for kids: the junior competition, to be held on 28 June 2024, with 10+ obstacles over 2+ kilometres.
