Sports, Fun and Pleasure – The Stubaital Winter Events

Last updated on 06.12.2018

World Cup, snow shows and winter hiking events in Stubai’s rich-variety winter.

The high level of both winter sports and culinary excellence of the Stubai Valley becomes particularly tangible at the many highlight events right in the snow. The FIS Slopestyle Freeski World Cup makes its second appearance at Stubai Glacier, the valley’s ski instructors showcase their skills at regular ski night shows and pleasure hikers will surely appreciate the upcoming winter hiking nights.

Europe‘s first World Cup venue and a Premiere anniversary
The start of the season at Stubai Glacier is reason enough to celebrate every year. The “Weiße Wiesn” event – the Ski Oktoberfest on 13and 14 October 2018 at the Eisgrat Summit Station – therefore matches the season opening theme. Only a week later, the Snowpark Stubai Zoo will be officially opened. During the tenth anniversary of the Stubai Premiere event from 19 to 21 October 2018, all freestyle riders are invited to comprehensively test the latest set-up in the DC Stubai Zoo Snowpark and to join the party. The FIS Freeski World Cup will be held for the second time in a row already. From 20 to 22 November 2018, Stubai Glacier will be the first World Cup venue in Europe where the Slopestyle Freeski Superstars will perform their tricks. The 120 starters from 20 nations will presumably also be joined by local athletes Laura Wallner and Viktor Moosmann, who will compete for points in the 2019 Freeski World Championships as well.

Colourful nights and exciting events in the Schlick 2000 Skiing Centre
The Schlick 2000 Skiing Centre in Fulpmes opens its season on 8 December with a Winter Warm-up event at the Kreuzjoch Summit Station. From 26 December things will get heated and colourful again on a regular basis: on occasion of eight Ski Night Shows – every Wednesday – the Stubai Ski School and the Schlick 2000 Ski Centre will present the slope at the Intermediate Station in colourful lights under the motto “Night of Colours“. This is made possible by the participating ski instructors, light artists from the Czech Republic, daring motocross riders, snow groomers and many other highlights. Depending on your mood, the evening can even be rounded off with a fun night toboggan run. More opportunities to party and dance along to the latest winter hits are offered by the LIFE Radio Winter Tour on 10 February, the Ö3 Snow Cat event on 17 March and the lodge parties that will be held every Sunday at the Schlick 2000 Skiing Centre from mid-March 2019.

Winter hiking nights at Klaus Äuele Natur Aktiv Park
Strolling through snow-covered landscapes, enjoying the silence, merely hearing the snow creaking under your feet – for many visitors this is what makes winter hiking so fascinating. At night, this hiking experience is even more intense. This is exactly what the winter hiking nights in the Nature Active Park Klaus Äuele offer. On 10 and 24 January 2019, you will immerse into atmospheric light around the Marend Stüberl. Visitors can explore the trails on guided torchlight hikes, watch a carver creating fascinating ice sculptures, listen to traditional music groups, skate away on natural ice rinks or try curling, take an adventurous husky sleigh ride and indulge in culinary delights at the many food stands.

The tour starts at 7.30pm and free shuttle buses regularly take guests from Schönberg to the event grounds and back.

Hot outdoor events and spectacular ski night shows in Neustift
Cold winter temperatures will not bother you, when joining the five Winter Open Air events in Neustift – thanks to hot music performances by various live bands and local delicacies such as hot meals and drinks from the Stubaital. The Winter Open Air series’ opening event with après-ski will take place at the same time the first Ski Night Show of the Stubai Glacier Ski School is held, i.e. on 15 January 2019. This means that the grounds at the Sonnenbergbahn slope in Neustift’s Milders will first be all about music, before the formations of ski instructors will set the stage for a spectacular show.
