Double victory for Katharina and Alex Hutter at the STUBAI ULTRATRAIL 2024

Last updated on 01.07.2024

Premiere at the Stubai Ultratrail: with Katharina and Alex Hutter, a pair of siblings from the Stubai Valley, won the supreme discipline over 67 kilometres and over 5200 meters of altitude for the first time.

For Alex Hutter it was already the 2nd victory in 8:33:40 hours at the legendary “City 2 Glacier” from Innsbruck through the night up to the 2,900-meter-high mountain station on the Eisgrat. His sister Katharina Hutter, who is one year younger, celebrated her first victory on the long distance. Local hero and co-favorite Christian Stern did not manage the third victory in a row and ended up in third place with a respectable gap in 9:13:01 hours. Second place went to the strong Czech Tomas Kubicik in 8:48:34 hours. “I just had a good day, in conditions that suit me,” summed up a visibly satisfied Hutter.

Even more impressive was Katharina Hutter’s performance at her premiere on the K67 distance: While she was still in 7th place after the first aid station, she fought her way forward place by place and took the lead at the last aid station at the Dresdner Hütte. And she didn’t give it up even over the steep snowfields up to the finish. In the end, 11:22:49 hours were on the clock. “I was really looking forward to the long climb. It was just beautiful! And if my brother is already setting the pace, then I would have to step up accordingly,” Katharina said happily at the finish. Second place went to Germany’s Nora Schief, who was in the lead for almost the entire race and was about 14 minutes behind at the end. Austria’s Leonie Hasenauer completes the podium in 11:43:59 hours.

Sovereign performances of established female runners from Austria

The performances of the favourites from Austria were also unbeatable on other routes of the day. On the K18 course, where the multiple Austrian national champion Karin Freitag was able to assert herself confidently, and on the K8 course, where Andrea Mayr from Austria, the world champion of the 2023 World Championships in Stubai, ran away from everyone despite having just overcome a cold.

Fantastic running weekend opened with a new route

The Stubai Ultratrail weekend had already started on Friday afternoon with the newly created “Sunnseitn’ Trail” around Neustift. The highlight of the 15 km long race was the 110-metre-long suspension bridge that had just been inaugurated. And the favourite didn’t give the competitor a chance: the German Moritz auf der Heide, who recently moved to the Stubai Valley, raced over the trail in a sensational 1:07:28 hours. Nils Bergmann finished second ahead of Britain’s Thomas Saville. In the women’s race, Michaela Schmeer wins in 1:33:09 ahead of Julia Müller and Barbara Hofer.
