Gregor Meyle was the main act at the WMTRC 2023 Innsbruck-Stubai Opening Ceremony

A fantastic atmosphere and balmy temperatures prevailed at the WMTRC 2023 festival venue outside the Landestheater in Innsbruck.
It’s possible the likable German singer and songwriter Gregor Meyle dedicated his hit “Keine ist wie du” (“There Is No Other One Like You”) to Tyrol’s capital city of Innsbruck when he was rocking the stage at the WMTRC 2023 Opening Ceremony on Tuesday evening; after all, the city showed off its alpine-urban charme in perfect conditions. A festive audience not only cheered on the star and his band but also the 1,300 athletes from all over the world that have come here to run for medals on some of the most scenic routes in and around Innsbruck and the Stubaital valley.
He got his first guitar when he was four and stood on the stage for the first time a mere year later: A life without music seems impossible to Gregor Meyle. The humble musician from Backnang (Baden-Wuerttemberg/GER) was discovered at a casting show hosted by German TV entertainer Stefan Raab. His appearance in the show “Sing meinen Song – das Tauschkonzert” in 2014 led to his musical breakthrough; ever since, he has had a strong fan base and several of the songs produced by him have been topping the European charts for weeks on end.
“One of the most beautiful cities in Europe”
He comes to Tyrol on a regular basis; his daughter learned how to ski at the Hochzeiger (Pitztal) and Meyle himself is an avid snowboarder. He also enjoys mountain running, whereby in his case the Austrian term “gehen” (“to walk”) seems more apt than the German term “laufen” (“to run”). However, that being said, if he does set out, it is usually on a long run/walk that is several miles (or Meyles) long. He considers Innsbruck to be “one of the most beautiful cities in Europe”, and he keeps pointing out the Austrian hospitality.
“One of the best”
As part of the Opening Ceremony, Gregor Meyle performed his new song “Einer der besten” (“One Of The Best”), which will only be officially released in October and earned him frenetic applause from the audience in Innsbruck. It was the coach of the German national soccer team who asked him to write this song – but it also seems very fitting for the blood, sweat and tears to be expected during the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships 2023.
“Unplugged” tour in winter
Meyle & Band are promising to be rocking the stages of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and provide summer feelings until October, followed by a more pensive “unplugged” tour in winter featuring six brand new songs. The style of Gregor Meyle’s compositions is often described as soulful, and it combines Soul with a pinch of Jazz – it seems there is no better place to enjoy it than surrounded by the stunning Tyrolean Alps.
