Tirol lures world-class athletes to its midst. The heart of the Alps attracts not only mountain-loving holidaymakers, but also the international sporting elite. Year on year, the world’s most outstanding athletes gather here to compete at the very highest standards in skiing, ski jumping and cross-country skiing. Here, an overview of Tirol’s 2023/24 winter sports calendar:

FIS Ski World Cup Opening Sölden • 28th to 29th October 2023
Sölden celebrates 30 years of the Ski World Cup: This year’s winter kicks off in Ötztal for the 30th time with the AUDI FIS Ski World Cup Opening on Rettenbach Glacier. In late October, the world’s best ski racers will kick off the international ski racing season with two Giant Slalom races – the women compete on Saturday, followed by the men on Sunday. Tickets for the anniversary event are available already.

AUDI FIS Ski World Cup Gurgl • 18th November 2023
Gurgl is to host an AUDI FIS Ski World Cup for the very first time, where the men’s Slalom on the Kirchenkar Slope in Hochgurgl will open this year’s ski season in mid-November. Visitors can look forward to a diverse supporting programme from 16th to 19th November 2023 – including the Gurgl Carat in Obergurgl, DJs and ski guiding with top British racer Dave Ryding.

FIS Freeski World Cup Stubai • 22nd to 25th November 2023
The FIS Freeski World Cup will be held for the seventh time on the Stubai Glacier in 2023, drawing around 100 competitors from 20 nations to Tirol. The scene’s elite will be in attendance, including Olympic and world champions who will showcase their slopestyle skills in the Snowpark Stubai Zoo and battle it out for the first World Cup points of the season.

BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup Hochfilzen • 8th to 10th December 2023
A firm fixture in the Biathlon calendar and a highlight of the Pillerseetal region: the Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen, where the world’s finest biathletes meet to compete in the Sprint, Pursuit and the men’s and women’s Relay. Visitors from all over the world can once again look forward to exciting races and a great supporting programme in the Kitzbühel Alps in December 2023.

AUDI FIS Ski World Cup Lienz • 28th to 29th December 2023
Just before the turn of the year, ski racing returns to Osttirol, when the women’s ski elite vie for podium positions on Mount Schlossberg in Lienz. Two women’s races are planned: the Giant Slalom takes place on 28th December 2023, followed by a Slalom on 29th December 2023. Spectators will not only have the opportunity to enjoy the racing atmosphere but can also explore the delightful town of Lienz.

Four Hills Tournament Bergisel Ski Jump Innsbruck • 2nd to 3rd January 2024
THE sporting event at the beginning of the year is undoubtedly the 72nd Four Hills Tournament, which traditionally takes place at the beginning of January on the Bergisel Ski Jump in Innsbruck. Fans can once again look forward to spectacular jumps by the world’s finest athletes. Ski jumpers not only have an imposing view of the throngs of fans from the start bar, but also of Tirol’s capital and the magnificent backdrop of the Nordkette Mountains.

Luge World Cup and European Luge Championships Igls • 13th to 14th January 2024
Europe’s best lugers will be competing for continental championship titles on the Olympic track in Innsbruck-Igls. The 55th European Luge Championships will be held as part of the fourth World Cup event in the 2023/24 season. Disciplines include men’s and women’s Singles and Doubles as well as the Team Relay.

84th International Hahnenkamm Races Kitzbühel – 15th to 21st January 2024
The International Hahnenkamm Race in Kitzbühel is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the men’s skiing calendar: during the 84th Race Weekend fans can look forward to two Downhill races on the legendary Streif racecourse on Friday and Saturday, before the Slalom elite battle it out in the grand finale on Sunday.

FIS Nordic Combined Triple Seefeld • 2nd to 4th February 2024
In early February 2024, Seefeld will once again be transformed into the hotspot of Nordic skiing, as it hosts the eleventh edition of the Nordic Combined Triple. Double points are up for grabs for the athletes competing in what is considered one of the best cross-country skiing destinations in the Alps. Thanks to the interesting competition format, things remain riveting for both athletes and fans right up until the final event on Sunday. After last year’s premiere, the women’s event will also be held on Friday and Saturday.

Freeride World Tour Fieberbrunn • March 2024
Spectacular runs by the world’s freeriding elite await fans at the Freeride World Tour in the week from 12th to 18th March 2024. Fieberbrunn, the only German-speaking stop on the tour, is invariably where the battle for the world championship titles is decided – on the steep and rock-strewn northern flanks of Mount Wildseeloder. This entails a 40-minute ascent for the world’s elite freeriders, before they plunge from the 2,118-metre-high summit down a slope with gradients of up to 70 degrees and 620 metres in elevation difference. A spectacular experience for athletes and spectators alike!
