The \u00d6tztaler Cycle Marathon is and remains the measure of all things! The official registration period for the classic cycling marathon at the heart of the Alps ran throughout January and never before so many cycling fans have registered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The registration phase for the \u00d6tztaler Cycle Marathon is a yearly highlight even months before the race itself. At the same time last year in January, some 22,000 cyclists registered to take part in the starting place raffle of the \u00d6tztaler Cycle Marathon. In the end, only 4,226 cyclists from 36 nations (341 women, 3,885 men) could fulfill their dream of the 227 kilometer long marathon myth covering 5,500 altitude meters. While in previous years the number of registrations usually leveled out at 15,000, this year a historic high of 25,198 requests was reached. The number of nationalities is also impressive as cyclists from no fewer than 50 countries have registered!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But only around 4,000 will receive their starting ticket, which will be drawn as part of the official raffle in mid-February. Every single cyclist has to conquer the four high alpine passes of K\u00fchtai, Brenner pass, Jaufen pass and finally the 29 kilometer long ascent to Timmelsjoch before reaching the finish line, cheered by many spectators in S\u00f6lden, \u00d6tztal valley. “The majority of registrations again came from Germany, but we have received requests from all parts of the world and from more countries than ever before. This is proof enough that the legend of the \u00d6tztaler Cycle Marathon is unbroken. We are also constantly introducing innovations in order to create an even more impressive experience for all cycling fans,” states Dominic Kuen, head of the organizing committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
