Just under two months to go until the start of the world’s toughest giant slalom
Last updated on 24.02.2026
On Saturday, 18 April, the starting signal will be given for the Stubai Wild Ride, the most spectacular ski event of the winter in the Stubai Valley. Then the Stubai Glacier will once again be transformed into the stage for one of the most exciting giant slalom races in the Alps. Last year’s winners have already registered and will try to improve their times. New this year is the team classification, which gives the race an extra dose of tactics and action. Over a length of over six kilometres, with 920 metres of altitude difference and around 160 gates, the Stubai Wild Ride demands technique, endurance and courage. Anyone who wants to be there can register online until Tuesday, April 14.
The Stubai Wild Ride, which was held last year under the name “Wilde Grube Ride”, will take place again under the motto “Epic Rides. Epic Valley.“. Once again, this top-class giant slalom is the ultimate challenge for ambitious amateur racers.

New team classification provides additional excitement
An exciting innovation awaits all participants: For the first time, there will be a team classification. Skiers can form teams of five people. There must be at least one woman, and the four fastest times are scored (“best-of-4” principle). This not only provides additional motivation but also brings a tactical component into the race and increases the chances of a podium finish.
The top riders are back at the start
Many familiar faces from last year will be back at the Stubai Wild Ride. Among them were the three first-placed men and the fastest women of the Wilde Grube Ride 2025.

Winner Magdalena Ranalter is already looking forward to the race: “I’m really looking forward to being back! The Stubai Wild Ride is very special, especially because it’s a home race for me. Of course, I’ll try to defend my title, but what counts most for me is the fun of skiing and the great atmosphere on the glacier.”
In the men’s event, Tormis Laine, who finished third last year and was just competing for his home country Estonia at the Winter Games in Milano Cortina, will be there. “The race in spring in the Stubai has a special appeal for me. The route is long, challenging and simply incredibly beautiful. I’m highly motivated and will give everything to stand at the top of the podium this year,” the likeable Estonian looks purposefully at the upcoming race.

In addition, experienced former World Cup skiers have once again announced their participation who want to prove their skills on the long, demanding course – a strong starting field is guaranteed.
The countdown is on
Two more months, then it’s time again: “Epic Rides. Epic Valley.” Preparations are already in full swing on the Stubai Glacier: the course is being prepared, the starting blocks are being divided and the tension is rising daily. For spectators, the day will be a real spring highlight with thrilling runs, a great atmosphere and an impressive panorama.
