Galtür calls to the traditional mountain fun walk

Last updated on 22.07.2020

Scenery to aspire to: At the 47th International Silvretta Ferwall March on 22 August 2020, participants hike through the picturesque alpine world around the climatic health-resort of Galtür over four distances. Optimal preparation is ensured with the package ‘Silvretta Ferwall March Week’ from 16 to 22 August, which will be declared open by extreme mountaineering legend Hans Kammerlander. New for 2020 is the ‘Marathon-route’.

As one of the most challenging but also most scenic mountain walks in Europe, the Silvretta Ferwall March in Tirol’s climatic health-resort has long been a fixture in the calendar of its international participants. The traditional mountain fun walk will be held on 22 August 2020 for the 47th time and for the first time over four distances of varying challenge. And the great objective is: Exploring the unique natural backdrop of the climatic health-resort without any competitive elements getting in the way as part of a large ‘hiking-community’. No matter if as a family with pram on a treasure hunt, youth eager to get their hands on a medal or pros racking up the scenic miles, here everyone will get their money’s worth and be rewarded with a medal for their efforts. The entry fee is €20 for adults and €16 for children and youth up to 17 years. Children under five years of age can join for free. New for 2020 is the ‘Marathon-route’ with a distance of 42.195 km.

For routes, one destination and medals for all
On 22nd August, participants of the 47th Silvretta Ferwall March select their preferred marching route from four distances. The ‘supreme discipline” and thus very challenging ‘Marathon-route’ leads across Zeinisjoch Ridge and across Grieskogeljoch Ridge at more than 2,698 m, as well as up to Larein Alpe along 42.195 km and 1,955 m climb and is rewarded with a gold medal and an honorary certificate. The ‘Ferwall-route’ leads along a distance of 32.7 km and 1,199 m climb also across Zeinisjoch and Grieskogeljoch ridges and also helps participants take gold. The silver ‘Silvretta-route’ takes marchers across the sum-mit of Breitspitze, with a distance of 19.2 km and some 618 m climb. For those who prefer a shorter, easy hike, the Bronze-tour is just the ticket: On the pram-friendly ‘Family-route’, a mere 150 m climb over 13.5 km await, and it features an exciting treasure hunt for the children. Depending on the distance, the start is at 6 or 9 o’clock. The entry fee of €20 for adults and €16 for children from 5 to 17 years includes beverages and light snacks with regional specialties from the gourmet region at the refreshment stations, a badge to show you have completed the route, admission to the indoor waterpark as well as discounted admission to Alpinarium Galtür.
