Galtür invites cross-country skiers to the Nordic Night Race

Night-time cross-country sprint spectacle in the centre of Galtür. The 2nd Galtür Nordic Night Race is set to take place on 27th March 2019. Top athletes including Laura Dahlmeier and Simon Schempp, together with leisure-oriented athletes in the Men’s, Women’s and Children’s categories, will compete against one on another following the K.O. rule, on the route through the centre of the town. Anyone can spectate or take part. Registration is now open and participation is free.

When on 27th March 2019 leisure-oriented cross-country skiers and pros battle it out at the 2nd Galtür Nordic Night Race, an exciting head-to-head race through the centre of the town, a great atmosphere and high tension are a cert for spectators and participants alike. The race itself is organised as a cross-country sprint event on flat terrain, where anyone aged 16 and over can take part free of charge, compete with the sce-ne’s top stars and battle it out for prize money totalling 7900 Euro.
Top international level athletes will be at the start too, including Simon Eder (A), Dominik Landertinger (A), Simon Schempp (D), Vinzent Geiger (D) and Urban Lentsch (A) in the Men’s category and Lisa Hauser (A), Laura Dahlmeier (D), Fran-ziska Preuß (D), Anais Chevalier (F) and Justine Braisaz (F) in the women’s category. Last year’s winners Paal Troean Aune (N) and Lisa Unterweger (A) will be there again this year.
The 2nd Galtür Nordic Night Race will take place whatever the weather and snow conditions thanks to a store of artificial snow and is set to start at 5 p.m. After each participant has completed the 500 metre qualification circuit as an individual time-trial, there will be a final race for the 16 fastest in the Men’s and Women’s categories. These will be held from 8 p.m. following the K.O. rule and will cover two circuits (around 1000 metres in total) through the town centre. To battle it out for the total prize money, finalists will start off in groups of four, from which the two fastest will get to carry on.
Registration is available online right now. Online registration closes on 26th March 2019 at 6 p.m. Late registration is available on site, depending on available capacity. Participation is free. Little skiers are big hitters here
Up and coming cross-country skiers can test their skills here on 27th March 2019 at 6:15 p.m. before the big people get going, in the U 9 class (children born between 2010 and 2012), U 12 class (children born between 2007 and 2009) and in the U 16 class (children born between 2006 up to the age of 16 – cut-off date is 27th March 2019) start out and are then ranked. The maxim: being here is everything. After all, in the children’s races all participants get a prize at the awards ceremony.
