Music, performing, debating – the calendar of cultural events in the Innsbruck region offers a widely varied programme throughout the summer, from concerts in the mountains to circus acrobatics in front of the Golden Roof.
A window on the complex present: 3rd Journalismusfest Innsbruck
3–5 May 2024 | Innsbruck
The Journalismusfest Innsbruck is a place for encounters, debates and cultural exchanges, where journalists from different European regions can have their say with their specific expertise. They will discuss current issues with academics, representatives of NGOs, and other experts. At book launches and readings reporters will talk about their experiences and provide insights into their work; exhibitions with photo reportages, comics, documentary films and audio features round off the third edition. Admission to many of the events is free.

Contemporary art: 6th INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL Biennial of the Arts
3–26 May 2024 | Innsbruck
INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL presents visual arts, film and sound works, performances and installations at extraordinary historical and contemporary locations throughout Innsbruck. The Biennial is for the sixth time inviting Austrian and international artists to the capital of Tyrol; this year they will be presenting and performing works on survival strategies, border areas and natural spaces under the title HEAVEN CAN WAIT.

Wickedly good entertainment: 42nd Tyrolean Folk Theatre Festival
6 July – 17 August 2024 | Telfs
Under the artistic direction of Gregor Bloéb, the motto of the second season of the Tyrolean Folk Theatre Festival is: “There’s more to come”. The successful production of “Seven Deadly Sins”, which premiered on the Birkenberg in Telfs last year, will be revived for 2024. New on the programme of the 42nd edition of the festival is Heinrich von Kleist’s comedy, “The Broken Jug”: directed by Anna Bergmann, this timeless classic will celebrate its premiere on 1 August 2024 on the Eduard-Wallnöfer-Platz in Telfs. In addition to these major productions, the 2024 festival will be rounded off with summer readings, concerts and more.

Clear the ring: 5th Krapoldi Festival
23 August – 1 September 2024 | Innsbruck
The international festival for New Circus, clown performances and street theatre is for the fifth time setting up camp in Innsbruck. The centrepiece of the Krapoldi festival is the circus tents in the middle of the Rapoldi Park. Innsbruck’s old town and its Marktplatz too will be full of colour during the late summer days: street art festivals and spectacular performances, productions that have never before been seen in Austria and popular classics are all sure to amaze audiences. Pleasure in its highest form: 6th Klassik am Berg
8 September 2024 | Axamer Lizum
When, in late summer, classical music resounds from the mountains, it is the moment for the unique concert experience offered by the Tyrolean chamber orchestra InnStrumenti: Klassik am Berg, classics on the mountain. This year it is the picturesque mountain world of the Axamer Lizum that provides the perfect setting for the sixth edition. Listeners can comfortably reach the “concert hall” by cable car to enjoy a wide-ranging programme directed and moderated by Gerhard Sammer. The enchanting ladies of the Ladin ensemble “Ganes” and young trombonist Jakob Ettlinger have been invited to perform as soloists for the occasion.
