High spirits in Tux-Finkenberg

MOUNTAIN TIME Enjoy an easy hike or a more challenging summit tour and feel the energy of the fresh, clear mountain air. Higher lying than the rest of the Zillertal valley, the hikers’ paradise of Tux-Finkenberg is a special source of “high spirits“ with impressive mountain peaks, thunderous waterfalls, rushing mountain streams, crystal-clear lakes and fragrant mountain pastures. More than 350 km of hiking trails, 120 km of mountain bike trails and 150 km of Nordic Walking trails are also part of the wide range of options. And, resplendent in white at the end of the valley, is the eternal ice of the Hintertux Glacier, Austria’s only all-year skiing resort. HIKING FANS and MOUNTAIN CINEMA With an area of 422 km², the High Alps Nature Park Zillertal Alps extends from the Reichenspitzgruppe in the east to the Tux main ridge with the Olperer in the west, and from Mayrhofen in the north to the main Alpine ridge in the south. Every day there are as many as three different themed hikes, each led by a Nature Park guide, to help you explore the impressive natural and cultural landscape. Our 3 summer cable cars, the hiking taxi and the free hiking bus make reaching the summit easy for those wanting a more gentle hike. E-mountain-bike rental is available at selected specialist sports shops in Tux-Finkenberg from EUR 29.00 per day! ICE MAGIC The Hintertux Glacier, Austria’s only all-year skiing resort, has up to 20 km of groomed ski slopes for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy during the summer months. The 15 m high Nature Ice Palace on the Hintertux Glacier is a unique jewel of nature. Visitors can admire frozen waterfalls, glittering ice stalactites and a glittering glacial lake. The Spannagelhöhle, the largest rock cave in the Central Alps, lies at the foot of the glacier tongue. This is yet another spectacle of nature that you must not miss out on. The panorama terrace at 3,250 m above sea level offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain peaks and the permanent ice. The terrace is easy to get to even for wheelchair users and families with baby buggies, with barrier free access from the underground car park at the valley station. FAMILY TIME TUX Worlds comprise a wide range of fascinating themed trails that are a huge attraction for young and old alike. The Gorge World, Nature World, Animal World, Plant World, Water World, “Gletscherflohsafari” (Glacier Flea safari) and Glacier World take you on an adventurous journey of discovery through the Tuxertal valley. The Glacier Flea Park lying at 3,250 m is probably the highest playground in Europe. There’s no chance of boredom here, what with the snow tyre roundabout or a snowball fight in the middle of summer. In Pepi’s Kinderland, Pepi the 8-metre giant bear is a great place to climb and let off steam. The Kinderland will be even more fun this summer with two additional attractions: a low ropes course and a 15 m long slide are the new highlights. The 1,000 m² Playarena in Tux-Vorderlanersbach provides plenty of thrills and spills with its high ropes course, climbing wall, giant slides, trampoline park and lots more. If you need to cool down after so much fun and games, the Finkenberg open air pool is just the place. CELEBRATING FESTIVALS Tradition has always been very highly valued in the Zillertal valley. Hardly a summer week goes by without a traditional or music festival. The Mountain Fires (23 Jun) mark the summer solstice and are the visible signal that summer has come to the mountains. Everything is rounded off with local delicacies shows and “Staudenfest” events, summer concerts and theatre evenings. Every amateur wood chopper can put his skills to the test at the 11th Wood Chopping Championship in Tux-Lanersbach. On 4 August Finkenberg will be rocking when the Schürzenjäger get their fans all worked up with the very best of local rock music at the Open Air concert. The “Fest Wochen Ende” in Finkenberg (7-9 Sep) with the Rebellion concert (7 Sep) in the Zillertal valley, the Cattle Drive Festival with sheep and Haflinger horses (8 Sep) together with the well-known entertainer Marc Pircher and the “Fest am Berg” festival (9 Sep) is a special highlight in Finkenberg. The traditional Hintertux Oktoberfest with cattle drive from the Bichlalm in Hintertux (28-29 Sep) will be taking place this year for the 30th time. At both festivals, the return of the magnificently adorned alpine-bred livestock is celebrated in typical Zillertal tradition until the early hours of the morning.
